General Administration

  1. Board of Selectmen

    The Selectmen issue the warrants for Town Meetings; initiate legislative policy by inserting articles in Town Meeting Warrants; and then implement the votes subsequently adopted.

  2. Building Department

    The Hingham Building Department is responsible for administration and enforcement of the Massachusetts State Building Code, Electrical, Plumbing and Architectural Access Codes, the Hingham Zoning By-Law and general by-laws of the town.

  3. Community Planning

    The Community Planning Department is an administrative unit of Town government including staff and department heads from the Building, Zoning, Planning, Conservation and Historic Departments.

  4. Conservation Commission

    The Commission is entrusted with the stewardship of over 1,000 acres of conservation land and addresses natural resource issues of the town and region.

  5. Engineering

    Providing support services to Town Departments and Committees through feasibility studies, procurement documents, project management, creation of procedures, and more.

  6. Historic Preservation

    The Historic Preservation Office is responsible for the Historical Commission and the Historic Districts Commission.

  7. Personnel Board

    The Personnel Board is responsible for the administration of the Town’s Personnel By-Law, which includes the Town’s Classification and Salary Plan.

  8. Planning Board
