- Registration deadline is 7 days prior to the scheduled start of a program.
- If you cannot make it during registration, a neighbor, friend, or family member may register for you. You may register no more than 2 families, including your own.
- All children must meet age/grade requirements before the start of the program.
- Registrations are processed upon receipt of a completed registration form and payment.
- Check(s) / Money Orders / Cash (exact change) are required for payment.
Registrations will continue until programs are filled.
- The Recreation Department reserves the right to consolidate, postpone, or cancel a program/trip for any reasonable cause. We otherwise have a NO REFUND policy.
- NO CONFIRMATIONS ARE SENT - Please note all information on your calendar.
- You may call the Office to confirm your mail-in or drop-off registration(s).
- Proper behavior in Recreation Department programs is expected at all times. If improper behavior cannot be corrected after the first occurrence, then parents will be notified that the child will have to be excused from further Recreation Department programs.
- The Town of Hingham does not provide accident or hospitalization insurance for any program participants. Therefore, all participants are strongly advised to have adequate personal coverage. Participation in all programs and events shall be at the registrant’s own risk.

THE 52nd ANNUAL FOURTH OF JULY ROAD RACE: “52 Years and Running”: The Hingham Recreation Commission is pleased to host the 52nd annual Hingham 4th of July Road Race. This grand Hingham tradition continues at the Hingham Middle School, 1103 Main Street, on Sunday July 4, 2010 at 7AM. Runners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to sign-up and take part in this timeless Hingham tradition. The 52nd Annual Hingham 4th of July Road Race attracted over 2000 runners with the proceeds providing funding for Recreation Department programs, special events, equipment, and supplies. Road Race revenues also fund scholarships for up to 32 children to attend the popular Summer Playground Program. Check Hinghamrec.com for the Road Race details.
YOUTH PROGRAMS
SUMMER EQUINE SESSIONS: This is a great opportunity to learn more about our four-legged friends! The goal of this program is to teach students how to ride, handle, groom and care for horses safely and to the best of their ability. Each weekly session consists of various equine related activities teaching all the fundamentals of riding from the beginner to the intermediate/advanced level. Based on experience, students are organized in small rotating groups allowing a concentrated learning experience.

HOOP DREAMS: This program will teach the basic fundamentals of basketball including dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and defense. Players will develop these skills in small sided and regular games. Terminology of basketball and positions will be part of the curriculum. Players will be split up by age and ability. Hoop Dreams will be held at the Hingham Middle School.

ZUMBA FOR KIDS: Come join the party! Aerobic fitness interval training set to a fusion of Latin and International music. This fast past kid friendly class will be a blast!

INTRODUCTION TO KAYAKING: Introduction to Kayaking is a 3 week course on Cohasset Harbor focusing on skills needed for any type of kayak. Presentations include dressing to paddle safely and potential paddling hazards. Simple rescues are demonstrated by the instructor combined with the paddling skills practiced by students to maneuver safely and comfortably on still water.

REC BASEBALL: America’s past time Hingham Rec Way! From running the bases to developing a sweet swing, kids will learn and improve their skills through active baseball drills and games. Kids will often be broken down into smaller groups to offer more touches, experience, and fun. Theme days, trivia, and a World Series tournament at the end of the program add to the excitement! Rec baseball will be held at Hingham Middle School.

FLAG FOOTBALL: Throw it, catch it, punt it……pigskins beware! Participants will learn fundamental skills from coaches through unique drills, games, and teaching techniques. The skills taught will include passing, catching, running, offensive / defensive strategies, and more. Theme days, trivia, and a Super Bowl tournament at the end of the program add to the excitement.

TENNIS ANYONE: Two 3-week sessions, under the direction of the Weymouth Tennis Club and its staff of tennis professionals will be offered. This is a recreational program designed to introduce individuals to the sport of tennis. Players should bring their own racket and one can of unopened balls to the first class. Each 1 hour class meets twice a week for 3 weeks. The program will be held at the recreation center courts. In the event of inclement weather a make-up class will be held.

MULTI SPORTS: Experience over 15 different sports in one week with the US Sports Institute. This multi sport program is dedicated to the truly sports minded youngster. The camp gives participants the opportunity to play a variety of sports from around the world in a fun, safe environment. Multi Sports will be held at the Hingham Middle School.

ONCE UPON A TIME: Join Hingham Rec in a fantasy summer vacation. Through the creative process of drama, we will take a 5-day fairytale adventure! In our “land of make believe” for kids ages 5-7, kids will act out scenes from best loved fairy-tales and become characters from traditional stories. Our week ends with a fun filled presentation for parents and friends.

REC LAX: Have great fun learning this exhilarating game. Fast paced and full of action, lacrosse is a unique combination of skill, speed, agility and finesse. Experience stick handling, passing, scooping, dodging, shooting and many more fundamental skills. No previous lacrosse experience is necessary.

DANCE FOR FUN: This program is for boys and girls who are interested in tumbling stunts, jazz dance and isolation movements. Children will also learn a combination of jazz, ballet, tap and acrobatic techniques as well as many of the favorite youth dances: macarena, electric slide, hip-hop movements, freeze dance and many more. Games will also be played including musical chairs, lip-sync, etc. There will be a fun show at the end of the week for parents, family and friends to attend. Teacher/Dancer Tracey O’Brien is certified by Test to Teach.

ADVENTURE IN SPACE & ROCKET LAUNCH: Future space explorers who will be entering grades K – 5 are invited to register for this odyssey to learn about flying both in and out of the Earth’s atmosphere. They will find out what it is like to live and work in space and design their own space station, moon base or Mars base. See how rockets work from the ground up by building and launching your very own model rocket.

SPORTS JAM: Play, play, and play some more….the ultimate multi-sport program! Baseball, basketball, and soccer will be the core sports in which some skills will be emphasized. Other Sports mixed in will include – flag football, floor hockey, volleyball, badminton, dodge ball, disc golf, ultimate frissbee, kick ball, team handball, whiffle ball, and more.

KIDS YOGA: This class will be both physically invigorating and empowering. We will start each class with yoga adventure moving in and out of poses as we act out an exciting adventure. We will then progress to animal alphabet pose; one, two, three-tree or one of many other fun activities. Near the end of each class, if time allows, we will work on our Yoga coloring book which will be taken home at the end of the series. Then we settle down to a 5 – 10 minute story time for a calming and restorative rest.

GUITAR WORKSHOP: This 6–week program includes an introduction to the guitar and a comprehensive study of guitar fundamentals, tuning and stringing the guitar and many exciting, enjoyable learning techniques. All students require a guitar: electric (with working amp) or acoustic. Lesson worksheets will be provided.

FUNTASTIC FISHING: Hingham residents are invited to participate in this outdoor adventure. Aspiring fishermen are introduced to the sport in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Experienced fishermen enjoy a day of catch and release fishing. This program will teach angler ethics and safety, the basics of fishing, needed gear, how to bait your hook, how to cast and retrieve your line and most importantly, how to take a fish off once you catch one!

TEEN EXTREME: Teenagers, are you tired of the same old summer programs? Do you want something new, fun, and exciting to enjoy with your friends? Well the answer is here! Introducing the ultimate program for teens: Teen Xtreme. Three days a week we will travel as a group to premier field trip destinations! Water parks, theme parks, interactive outdoor activities, beaches, and much more will all be in the mix. ON THE ROCKS: Top roping is the easiest form of rock climbing and completely SAFE! You will climb and rappel with confidence as you are safely belayed by a professional guide from the South Shore Center for Outdoor Education in this 3-day program held at the Quarry Hills in Quincy. Transportation is by individual arrangement. Boys & girls ages 8 years and older are invited to participate. All equipment is provided. In the event of inclement weather, a make up class will be scheduled.

SUMMER FUN CLUB: Children enjoy a variety of activities and games in this new and exciting recreation program. Children will do what children do best, run, jump, roll, tumble and swing! Indoor and outdoor play, themed activities and games are all included. There are 2 sessions of this 4-morning program. Summer Fun Club will be held at the Hingham High school cafeteria.

Tickets are the method of payment for all Adult Fitness Program drop-ins. Tickets are available in any quantity in the Recreation Office & Fitness Room. The cost per ticket is $8.
UNWIND AND ALIGN: Utilizing tennis balls and foam rollers for self myofascial release work on your body. It will include upper and lower body releases, along with releases for the hips and lower back.
You will feel like you've just had a full body massage following this class.

INTRODUCTION TO KAYAK TOURING: This eight-hour course in Cohasset harbor focuses on helping the student learn to travel safely and efficiently by kayaking along the coast. There is emphasis on learning and practicing efficient strokes and maneuvers, simple rescue, understanding the very basics of tides and currents, use of a compass (safety bearing), rules for paddling in channels with and without boat traffic, use of VHF radio and weather radio and other emergency equipment.

GETTING PAID TO TALK: MAKING MONEY WITH YOUR VOICE: Have you ever been told that you have a great voice? This exciting class will explore numerous aspects of voice over work for television, film, radio, audio books, documentaries and the internet in your area. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and to hear examples of demos recorded by professional voice actors. Class participants will even have a chance to record a commercial script under the direction of our voicecoaches.com producer.

CANINE COLLEGE: Obedience classes are open to puppies at least 12 weeks old who are seeking a beginners level understanding of all obedience commands, walking on a leash, and for help with problems like jumping, mouthing, and chewing. CASABLANCA BY THE SEA: Enjoy the scenery as you head to beautiful Portland, Maine. After a complimentary lunch at Dunstan School House Buffet, you will enjoy a 90 minute cruise. You’ll experience Portland’s picturesque islands, lighthouses, Civil War Forts, fishing boats, and seals basking on the rocks on this wonderfully narrated cruise. After your cruise you’ll have time for shopping and browsing at Portland’s newly renovated Old Port. Arrival home is 6:30 PM
