Update Due to the Coronavirus
As a precautionary measure to prevent and mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the Town of Hingham has suspended all non-essential services as of close of business on Friday, March 13, 2020. Along with other Town Departments, the Benefits Department will be operating in a limited state until at least May 4, 2020, in line with the Governor’s decision to close schools across the Commonwealth until that date. During this time we will be working remotely to the extent possible and will monitor and respond to emails and voicemails on a limited basis.
Should you need information about a plan you participate in, please contact the plan’s member services department directly at the number located on your card. If you do not have your card, a list of contact numbers for GIC health and prescription plans is posted to this page titled “Contact Numbers for GIC Plans”. We appreciate your patience during this difficult time.
Open Enrollment for Fiscal Year 2021
It is that time of year again for open enrollment to Hingham’s Health and Dental Insurance. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the open enrollment period has been extended and GIC will accept submissions until June 1, 2020. To allow for timely submission to GIC by their June 1, 2020 cutoff, the deadline to submit to the Benefits Coordinator any changes to your benefits is Monday, May 11, 2020. Changes will be effective July 1, 2020.
If you do NOT want to change any of your benefits, you do not have to do anything.
How do I enroll, drop or make changes?
New Electronic Option for making changes: If GIC has your email address, you may use myGICLink to access enrollment forms to make Annual Enrollment changes. Page 3 of the GIC Benefit Decision Guide has instructions for this automated option.
If electronic submission is not an option for you, then you can mail your forms to: Town of Hingham; C/O Benefits Department; 210 Central Street; Hingham, MA 02043
Benefits Fair: The GIC has cancelled their Health Fairs this year and Hingham’s Benefit Fair has been postponed. In the event that the Town Fair is able to be scheduled, a separate communication will be emailed out as well as posted on the Town benefits page.
Change to Basic Life Insurance: effective July 1, 2020, if you are currently enrolled in the “Basic” Life Insurance plan, the coverage will automatically increase from $5,000 to $10,000. In addition, the cost of the Basic plan will increase from $3.73 a month to $9.75 a month. The new deduction will take place with the paycheck dated 6/4/2020. At this time there will not be an open enrollment for life insurance, however, if you wish to cancel your Basic or Voluntary coverage or reduce your Voluntary coverage, please contact me.
Please do not hesitate to contact me, preferably by email, at email@example.com or at (781) 804-2476 if you have any questions.
Thank you, Diane Fee, Benefits Coordinator
