Solar Panel Project Slated For West Hingham and Nantasket Junction MBTA Stations

Solar energy development company Omni-Navitas/MAP Energy, under agreement with the MBTA, proposes to install a solar panel array above the parking lots at the West Hingham and Nantasket Junction Commuter Rail Stations.  The company has leased the air space over parking areas at 35 commuter rail stations in various towns along the right-of-way.  Hingham’s two stations are among the first planned for construction within the next few months.

The project involves installing 3.5 feet by 6.5 feet solar panels joined together to form a solid canopy that will cover the entire parking area.  The panel array begins at a height of 17 -18 feet and slopes toward the station platform to a height of 15 feet.  Five foot tall equipment cabinets are to be installed on a 10 feet by 25 feet pad.
