The Town of Hingham’s Annual Candlelight Vigil for the 2021 National POW/MIA Recognition Day will be at the POW/MIA Memorial located at Hingham Harbor; beginning at 19:00hrs/7:00pm, and lasting approximately 60 minutes. This simple stand-out draws awareness and shows solidarity for the cause.
All military, veterans, and Gold Star families are strongly encouraged to attend.
By Presidential Proclamation, National POW/MIA Recognition Day is to be observed annually on the third Friday in September. This National Day of Recognition honors our missing service members and their families, and highlights the government’s commitment to account for them. America’s POW/MIAs should be honored and recognized, rather than memorialized, with the focus on continuing commitment to account as fully as possible for those still missing.
Volunteers will be on-hand to distribute (glow-sticks) while they last, or you can bring your own luminary device. The general public is always welcome, and invited to participate.
We ask that you keep in mind current social distancing and mask guidelines.
Parking in the main lot nearest the Victory Statue (Iron Horse) is highly recommended.
