Christmas Candlelight Service
Sunday, December 18, 2022
New North Church’s Christmas candlelight service, one of Hingham’s longest running and best loved holiday events, returns Sunday, December 18. The service will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the historic 1806 meeting house at 1 Lincoln Street in Hingham Square.
Always known for extraordinary music, this year’s edition of the holiday tradition features faculty and student singers and musicians from the South Shore Conservatory of Music, plus special guest organist David Baharian.
New North's pastor, the Reverend Steven Aucella, will lead the service, featuring traditional Christmas readings. The Conservatory’s Mijin Choi will provide piano accompaniment for seasonal offerings by vocalists Kate Schembri, Paige Taylor and Jennifer Pearl. The service will also include traditional Christmas carols sung by the congregation.
Unwrapped gifts of toiletries, books, stationery, and other personal items will be collected at the service for the residents of Father Bill’s & Mainspring shelters. Collection boxes are available in the vestibule as you enter the church.
Following the service, all are invited to attend the traditional Wassail bowl reception held in the Ruth Curry Parlor at the back of the church.
