In conjunction with MassDOT and the Towns of Hull and Cohasset, the Town of Hingham will be moving forward with a temporary pilot program to measure in real time traffic patterns and impacts and validate computer modeling of proposed long-term safety solutions for the Summer St corridor.
Summer and Rockland Streets from east of the rotary to the intersection at George Washington Boulevard will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes, or one vehicle lane in each direction beginning on Monday morning May 21, 2018. Four lanes of traffic and left turning lanes will remain at signaled intersections. A message board about the project will go up on Summer St beginning the week of May 1, 2018
Anticipated Schedule
- May 20, 2018: Lane reduction test begins (one lane in each direction)
- July 31, 2018: Lane reduction test ends (returns to four lanes)
