Reduced Service Schedules in Effect
As you may have seen, Keolis and the MBTA announced on March 17 a Reduced Service Schedule on Commuter Rail because of the impact of coronavirus on our communities. This decision helps to ensure a public transit option for people with essential travel needs, while following the guidance of public health officials on the operation of service and the safety of our passengers and employees.
The Commuter Rail Reduced Service Schedule is available at www.MBTA.com/coronavirus and has been proactively handed out at major stations, such as North Station, Back Bay Station and South Station. Printed copies are also available at ticket offices upon request. The Reduced Service Schedule is similar to an enhanced Saturday schedule and applies to all lines. The modifications, while limited, support periods of peak travel while providing off-peak options throughout the day.
Following Tuesday’s implementation of service reductions, the MBTA announced additional adjustments to subway service based on ridership changes that reflect demand at specific times of day on select rapid transit lines and bus routes.
Enhanced Cleaning on All Commuter Rail Trains
As a part of enhanced procedures to help ensure safe public transit, Keolis has added shifts and resources to its cleaning process. All Commuter Rail coach cars are disinfected every 24 hours, with many of these cars disinfected every 12 hours. With this increase in intensity and frequency of disinfecting, also comes an added focus on treating any touched surfaces on trains and in stations.
