The Hingham Board of Health has issued a new advisory urging all members of the public to wear a cloth face covering when a social distance of 6 feet cannot be maintained in public settings. Information from the CDC on making and wearing cloth face coverings can be found on the CDC website.
________
Face Covering Advisory from the Hingham Health Department Effective April 24, 2020
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is aware that a significant portion of individuals with COVID-19 lack symptoms and can transmit the virus to others before showing signs of the virus or even knowing that they are infected. This means that the virus can spread between people interacting in close proximity (e.g., speaking, coughing, or sneezing) even if those people are not exhibiting symptoms. Therefore, it is critical to emphasize that maintaining 6 feet social distancing remains important to slowing the spread of the virus. In addition, the use of a simple cloth face covering can help slow the spread of the virus. This is especially important in areas that it is difficult to maintain adequate social distance (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies).
Whereas, the COVID-19 public health emergency poses a present, real and imminent danger to the public health, safety, or general welfare of the residents of the Town of Hingham, effective April 24, 2020 we strongly advise the public to follow the following guideline:
All members of the public are strongly advised to wear a cloth face covering when a social distance of 6 feet cannot be maintained in public settings.
