It’s official! For the first time since 1879, after several years of study and deliberation, a historic Town Meeting vote, and 15 months of transition prep and planning, the Town of Hingham officially owns the water system serving Hingham, Hull, and North Cohasset. This acquisition marks the culmination of nearly 9 years’ worth of work by citizen volunteers, staff, and external partners. It is a historic day for us all.
The water system has been renamed the Weir River Water System. It will be operated and maintained by industry leader SUEZ under the direction of the Board of Water Commissioners and the newly hired Water Superintendent. What does this mean for water customers?
