Wetlands Permitting
The Conservation Commission, in its mission to protect wetland resources, administers the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and the local Hingham Wetlands Protection Bylaw. The local bylaw was adopted to protect additional inland and coastal resource areas, for additional values, with additional standards stricter than those under the state regulations. When considering an activity within or near a protected resource area, please contact the Conservation office to review the proposal and determine the appropriate permit process. Please also review the Guide to Permitting under the MA Wetlands Protection Act and the Town of Hingham Wetlands Protection Bylaw. Protected resource areas in Hingham include ponds, intermittent streams and the wetlands bordering the stream, rivers as well as the land within 200’ of the river, low-lying flood plains, vernal pools, beaches, banks, dunes, and salt marshes. Below are links to all relevant local and state regulations and policies, as well as checklists and forms for filing applications with the Commission. DEP wetland forms not included in the checklists below may be found at Wetlands Permitting Forms | Mass.gov
