What is the Preservation Projects Fund?

Donations to the fund support the Commission’s mission to preserve and protect the historical, architectural and archaeological assets of the Town.  The Town of Hingham Preservation Award program is the newest of many projects and programs developed and implemented in the interest of preservation.  Others include ongoing care of the monuments, markers and sculptures such as the Pro Patria et Gloria (Iron Horse) at the harbor and the Seated Lincoln in Fountain Square.  Through the Preservation Projects Fund, the Historical Commission has published five books about the history of Hingham, which are staples in many households.  The Commission also sponsors educational programs and an annual essay contest for high school students, and maintains and updates the Comprehensive Community Inventory of Historical, Architectural and Archaeological Assets of the Town of Hingham.

The Preservation Projects Fund was established under Chapter 40, Section 8D, of the Massachusetts General Laws, which allows the Commission to accept gifts, contributions and bequests of funds from individuals, foundations and from federal, state or other governmental bodies for the purpose of furthering its program.  Donations to the Historical Commission’s Preservation Projects Fund are fully tax deductible under IRC 170(c) (2).
