[ARCHIVED] *Postponed* Hingham Announces Registration for Annual Summer Recreation Programs

Hingham Summer Recreation Program

Update 3/1 - Registration has been postponed to Wednesday, March 2 at 11 AM due to issues with the MyRec website.

Town Administrator Tom Mayo and Director of Recreation Mark Thorell are pleased to announce that registration opens tomorrow for Hingham Recreation’s annual summer programs.

Summer recreation programs will run from late June to early September and allow children the opportunity to participate in arts and crafts, field trips, scavenger hunts, field games and more.

Registration for the programs opens Tuesday, March 1 at 10 a.m. To register, visit the Hingham Recreation Department website (hinghamrec.com).

Visit the Hingham Rec website or follow Hingham Rec on Facebook for specific pricing information on these programs, as well as for additional information and detailed calendars of program activities.

“We are excited to be able to continue our highly popular and successful summer program again this year,” Director Thorell said. “Last summer we enrolled around 3,300 participants, and as we move out of the pandemic we look forward to continuing to provide children with a safe and engaging place to spend the summer months as they return to a sense of normalcy through fun activities.”

The age-specific programs that will be offered this coming summer include:

Preschool Program (ages 3-5)

The Preschool Summer Program is for children ages 3 to 5 and runs from June 27 to Sept. 2, consisting of 10 one-week sessions. Participants will enjoy daily activities such as arts and crafts projects, outdoor games, water play, storytimes, scavenger hunts and special entertainers.

Children aged 3 must register for the half-day program from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. Children 4 years of age may enroll in either the half-day or full-day program. All 5-year-old children must enroll in the full-day program from 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Fun Time (grades 1-3)

Fun Time features an exciting lineup of shows and entertainers for the summer of 2022. Rising first, second and third graders will enjoy sports, arts and crafts, field games, game rooms and more.

The Fun Time program runs from June 27 to Sept. 2. Campers in the same grades will be grouped together, so friend requests will not be necessary. The Fun Time program consists of 10 one-week sessions and will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Adventure Club (grades 4-5)

Campers will enjoy a walking trip to Hingham Harbor and Hingham Center, two days of arts and crafts, game rooms and field games at Cronin Field, two off-site field trips and more.

The Adventure Club program runs from June 27 to Sept. 2 and consists of 10 one-week sessions and will run from 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. daily.

Teen Xtreme (grades 6-8)

The Teen Xtreme program, which consists of ten one-week sessions, will offer more field trips than ever before. This summer’s line-up includes trips to amusement parks, water parks, zip-lining and more. The Teen Xtreme program runs from June 27 to Sept. 1.

The Teen Extreme Program is for teens entering grades 6-8 and runs Monday-Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 pm. Thursday is the “Big Trip” day from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., depending on the trip.

Parkland (ages 8-12)

The Parkland program offers outdoor exploration, adventures and challenges. Every day campers will confront the best aspects of Bare Cove Park, Wompatuck and World’s End, including climbing, biking, fishing, hiking and exploring hidden nooks and crannies of these parks.

Every week will be filled with challenges such as compass navigation, geo-caching, capture the flag games and team tree climbing.
