[ARCHIVED] Know Before You Mow!

Mowing 2

Grass clippings that are blown into the street enter storm drains and are carried directly to our local lakes, ponds and streams. Those clippings contribute nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous, which cause unwanted and uncontrolled growth of algae. Leave your grass clippings on your lawn and it will provide free fertilizer and reduce water pollution. Contrary to popular belief, doing so doesn’t cause thatch buildup.  For more information on how to create a beautiful healthy yard the natural way, download the free 16-page Greenscapes Guide.

Get Watersmart

Are you WaterSmart? Whether it’s in our homes, at our businesses or on our streets, we can all do our part to keep our water clean, plentiful, and affordable. We can all be WaterSmart.

WaterSmart is a nonprofit partnership between the NSRWA and 11 towns on the South Shore: Aquarion (Hingham and Hull), Duxbury, Hanover, Hingham, Kingston, Marshfield, Norwell, Pembroke, Rockland, Scituate and Weymouth. Our programs are based on the belief that education is key. Since its creation, WaterSmart has educated thousands of local school-age children, adults, and businesses on water conservation, stormwater pollution, where their water comes from, and how to care for it.
